HDMount Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question that isn't covered here? Please contact our team at sales@viewtech.co.nz for any additional enquiries.

Are HDMount components compatible with RAM® Mounts products?

Yes. HDMount components are fully cross-compatible with RAM® Mounts systems. The HDMount 1″ Ball system matches RAM® B Size, and the HDMount 1.5″ Ball system matches RAM® C Size. You can mix and match HDMount arms, bases, and adapters directly with existing RAM® Type B and Type C setups.

What materials are used to construct HDMount hardware?

HDMount components are built for heavy-duty commercial and harsh industrial environments using:

  • Marine-grade aluminum alloy finished with a durable, anti-corrosion powder coating.

  • 304 stainless steel hardware for salt-spray and moisture resistance.

  • Injection-molded nylon for high-impact resistance.

  • Industrial-grade textured rubber on ball connectors to prevent slipping under heavy vibration.

What is the difference between the 1" Ball System and the 1.5" Ball System?
  • 1″ Ball System: Designed for lightweight to medium-duty payloads such as smartphones, small vehicle monitors, dash cams, and lightweight handheld devices.
  • 1.5″ Ball System: Designed for heavy-duty applications requiring higher weight capacity, such as large field monitors, heavy tablets, VESA-mounted displays, and rugged equipment used in high-vibration machinery.
Can HDMount products handle outdoor, marine, or harsh industrial environments?

Yes. The entire product range is explicitly engineered with anti-corrosion, salt-resistant, and UV-stabilized materials. They are built for marine craft, agricultural machinery, mining equipment, construction vehicles, and outdoor security installations.

What standard hole patterns and mounting standards does HDMount support?

HDMount offers adapters and base plates that support industry-standard mounting patterns, including:

  • AMPS Pattern: 2-hole diamond plates and 4-hole round plates.
  • VESA Standard: 75 × 75 mm and 100 × 100 mm square plates (1.5″ ball system).
  • Viewtech Monitor T-Bolt Adapters: Direct slide-in T-bolt adapters for Viewtech and compatible vehicle monitors.
  • Standard Threading: 1/4″-20 threaded camera adapters.
What mounting options are available if I cannot drill holes into a surface?

HDMount provides several non-permanent, drill-free mounting bases:

  • Suction Cup Bases: Single and dual 90.5 mm suction bases for glass and smooth surfaces.
  • Magnetic Bases: Heavy-duty Ø67 mm magnetic bases for steel panels and vehicle cabs.
  • Clamps: U-bolt clamps (Ø13–31 mm), C-clamps (Ø25.6–61 mm), tube clamps (up to Ø65 mm), and universal square tube clamps for vehicle pillars and roll cages.
How do the textured ball ends prevent equipment from slipping?

Unlike smooth ball-and-socket designs that shift under shock or vibration, HDMount ball ends feature a textured rubber coating. When tightened inside an arm socket, the rubber grips the metal surface to keep mounted devices firmly positioned, even on off-road terrain or heavy machinery.

What connector arm lengths are available?

HDMount offers multiple socket arm lengths to suit different space requirements:

  • 1″ System Arms: Available in 60 mm, 90 mm, 170 mm lengths, as well as a specialized Swivel & Rotate arm.
  • 1.5″ System Arms: Available in 95 mm and 150 mm lengths.
  • Swing Arms: Horizontal and vertical swing arm assemblies for extended reach in cabs or workstations.
How do I build a complete mounting setup using HDMount?

A standard modular mounting assembly requires three core parts:

  1. Base Component: Secures to your mounting surface (e.g., suction cup, C-clamp, magnetic base, or AMPS drill plate).
  2. Connector Arm: Clamps onto the ball of the base and provides articulation.
  3. Adapter / Holder: Attaches to your device (e.g., phone holder, VESA plate, 1/4″ screw adapter, or T-bolt adapter).
Are HDMount parts sold individually or as pre-packaged kits?

Both options are available. You can purchase individual components to replace or expand an existing setup, or use the online Kit Builder to select compatible bases, arms, and device adapters tailored to your specific application.
